The Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial was one of the most talked about events of 2022 that resulted in hilarious Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard memes. In the end, the jury was in favor of Depp and ordered Heard to pay the actor $15 million. Both Depp and Heard had different reactions to the verdict, with Depp releasing a statement via Instagram where he stated, “six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
Also taking to Instagram, Heard expressed her disappointment and said she was “heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband.” She is currently appealing the decision, explaining she does not have enough money to pay Depp his $15 million.
The biggest takeaway from the case was the way women are still treated when they speak out against domestic violence. While Heard no doubt played her role in their marriage breakdown and the abuse that occurred, it was clear from the testimonies that Depp was also a huge part of it. His behavior would certainly fall under the banner of emotional and domestic abuse. While Depp may be the winner in the eyes of the court, he certainly shouldn’t be seen that way in the public, although as the case demonstrated, people were very pro Depp, with his long and successful career, as well as his performance on the stand, helping him come across as the victim, when that really wasn’t the case.
